Coachella was back this year with the most artists ever set to perform there, being over 150 artists! Coachella 2023 brought headliners Bad Bunny, BLACKPINK and Frank Ocean to the desert in Indio, California. Like always, Coachella was the perfect mix of the greatest artists of this moment, beautiful outfits and incredible art installations.
music
Coachella always has a wide variety of music genres, of which dance music was also present this year. Calvin Harris performed his new hit song ´Miracle´ with Ellie Goulding. With Frank Ocean cancelling his weekend 2 set, Skrillex, Four Tet and Fred Again.. were set to close off the mainstage with an amazing set, while only having a few days notice! The trio played their first set together in January, before selling out Madison Square Garden in february and now playing Coachella together in April, quite impressive. Another iconic dance music moment from Coachella 2023 was Eric Prydz holographic set, being mindblowing as ever with the holographic visuals appearing to be floating in the sky, submerging the audience into his music. Also Kaytranada brought all the vibes with his enchanting sunset set, showcasing his smooth dancemoves. Other dance music performances were by The Blaze, a back to back between Fisher and Chris Lake, Adam Beyer, MK, Camelphat, Tale of Us, Hot Since 82, Jamie Jones, Vintage Culture, Pawsa, Dennis Cruz and Chris Stussy.
Other remarkable moments were artists who made a comeback, like 77 year old Blondie, who still knew how to make the crowd go wild. But also headliner Bad Bunny who was the first ever to do an almost entirely Spanish set. More importantly, don´t be afraid you´ve missed out, because a lot of sets were uploaded to youtube for the people at home to be able to admire anyways! We will set some of the links below.
fashion culture
Coachella is a huge attraction for fashion lovers, as attendants go all out every year to achieve the most dreamy, colorful and remarkable outfits. Although famous influencers like Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber are known to go all out with their Coachella outfits, this year we saw celebrities opting for a more minimalistic desert style. Luckily, we still saw a lot of color and creativeness all over people’s outfits, like the ones above matching perfectly with Leroy’s Molecular Cloud!
art installations
24 metres high robots and giant molecular clouds? Coachella has it all! Coachella is widely known for its art installations and brought 4 new art installations to the festival this year. Starting with Holoflux by Güvenç Özel. This 18 metres tall iridescent sculpture reflects the sunlight during the day and displays Özel’s digital art during the night. Next are The Messengers by Kumkum Fernando. These 24 metres high robots are submerged in color, prints and patterns. Next is the Molecular Cloud by Vincent Leroy, which depicts a ‘permanently changing viewpoint’ according to the artists. Last but not least is Eden by Maggie West. These 2 to 17 metre tall installations are cut-outs of flowers photographed by West, making them one of the world’s largest 3D installations. All the art installations are lit up at night with matching hues. Another art piece lighting up the desert night sky was during headliner BLACKPINK’s set and Björk’s set. They flew 500 led-powered drones into the sky to project changing 3D animations and left the crowd stunned.
