We´ve listed the ins and outs of the International Music Summit happening in Ibiza this week. From accessing a state of deep relaxation and alertness by moving past the surface level of the mind, to a final dinner attended by the greatest legends of EDM worldwide. Let´s dive in.
The International Music Summit is an event kicking off the summer season that unites innovators, creators, visionaries and disruptors from all over the world in the EDM music scene to discuss important challenges in business, but also possible opportunities to regard. IMS defines themself as: ´a thought-leadership platform for electronic music, culture, education, technology and wellness, created to inspire ethical change and catalyse sustainable growth within the diverse global music industry, from the boardroom to the dancefloor.’
The fourteenth edition of IMS takes place in the famous Destino Pacha Resort in Ibiza from wednesday the 26th of april until friday the 28th of april, with this year’s motto being ‘Face the Future’. During these three days there will be a lot of interesting speakers such as Cristiana Simon, who is the manager of Black Coffee and Max Lousada, who is the CEO of Recorded Music at Warner Music Group. All of these speakers will be discussing 10 main topics which are incredibly important in the EDM scene right now, being: Understanding the unstoppable: AI unravelled, Agent VS. Promoter, Matters of the mind: understanding neurodiversity, Ageing in club culture, Reclaim your rights: A case study by Tap Music Publishing, Diversity & Inclusivity: a deep discussion, WEB3: Where to now?, AI: for & against, The contemporary challenges of electronic music journalism, How to… sell your career catalogue.
In addition to this there will also be a variety of other events and activities happening. One of these is the presentation of the IMS Business Report 2023, offering a detailed overview of the EDM industry from the past year. Another event is hosted by IMS College in collaboration with Point Blank Music School, they will be hosting DJ and production workshops and masterclasses. Other than that, brands will be demonstrating their products, coaching and proposals regarding the latest developments. This year, the Dinner of Legends returns on Thursday the 27th of april.
If you want to take a step back and relax a bit, you’ll be able to join The Art of Areté (pronounced AH-ri-tay), hosted by Pioneer DJ, which IMS partnered up with. The Art of Areté is a wellness programme which you can join daily at the Destino Pacha Resort. It will take on topics like psychology, yoga, breathing techniques, sound healing, movement and even meditation talked about by Anna, who channeled meditation into music for her new album. In addition to this IMS also offers private lessons in Vedic meditation. Vedic meditation has its roots in ancient Indian wisdom and revolves around the use of mantra and transcending, which means accessing a state of deep relaxation and alertness by moving past the surface level of the mind. These mantras are chosen specifically for the individual by a trained Vedic meditation trainer and are not to be shared with other individuals. This makes Vedic meditation an incredibly personal and serene form of meditation.
On the 28th, IMS ends with an open-air celebration at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Dalt Villa. While listening to an opening set by Camelphat you’ll have amazing views of the cathedral and look all over the Mediterranean Sea, being taken away into the sunset by multiple B2B’s and ending the night with a set by DJ Academy winner Pete Tong. Even better: everyone is able to buy a ticket for this, without having to attend the whole IMS! Overall, IMS Ibiza is a grand networking event attracting the biggest names in the industry, hosting an interesting programme for everyone who wants to be submerged into the world of electronic dance music.
