Phuture - Acid Tracks (1987) Length: 12:17
Let’s first take it back to the time of the pioneers of house music & techno. Derrick May & Marshall Jefferson were starting to get big in their scenes in Chicago & Detroit, a group of artists in the Chicago scene were trying to make a new sound within house & techno using the 303. Creating the now familiar sound of acid house. This massive acid house track is one of the earliest examples of a truly nasty, driving bassline. This track still holds up pretty well by today’s standards of production and doesn’t really get boring anywhere throughout the track. This is a minimalistic masterpiece by the Chicago legends of house, and considered to be the first true acid house track. A masterpiece to behold for sure.
Julien Jabre - Swimming (2006) Length: 10:44
The piano house tune to beat all piano house tunes. This song is a staple of the genre. A brilliantly groovy song that hasn’t aged one bit since it released in 2006. A catchy piano riff accompanied by an incredibly groovy bassline guide you through the track, while some incredible stereo imaging takes care of some of the noises in the background. Leaving you feeling like you’re in the room where the track was produced.
Audion - Mouth to Mouth (2013) Length: 12:54
This progressive house monster by Audion is a track to behold. This song genuinely has one of the best build ups we have ever heard. The sheer amount of adrenaline that releases when the bassline first hits is absolutely incredible, and well worth the wait.
London Grammar - Baby It’s You (Kölsh Extended Version) (2020) Length: 12:30
Kölsh is one of the few artists left that still regularly releases long-form tracks, and he rarely disappoints. This track is a great example of just that. A masterpiece of melodic techno, with the beautiful vocals of London Grammar that give a sensitive touch to the driving acid bassline in the drops.
